Dear families,
Welcome to third grade! I know this school year is nothing what we expected nor desired, however I will try my best with the resources I have to make this a fun, educational and memorable year. My third grade team and I have been working closely with each other in order to create a rigorous school year with the new language arts curriculum, Wonders, and new math curriculum, Ready Math. The first few weeks of school we will get our feet wet and get into routines and virtual class etiquette. Once routines are in place we will add more math and language arts and eventually Mystery Science! I understand everyone's schedules are different and we all must be flexible. However, our school has an attendance requirement that we must follow. Each day I will take attendance in the morning. I will do this by seeing students on my zoom meeting. There will be lessons throughout the day and break out groups that I will lead for small instruction. There will also be a lot of time that will be spent independently. Starting Monday, August 17th I have time slots to choose from to pick up materials. The last meet time is 10:30 on Tuesday, August 18th in order to meet virtually as a class for the first time at 11:00. This will be a quick check that things are working and you can access Zoom and Google Classroom. Please let me know if you need a different time/day to meet or if you do not feel comfortable meeting with me in person, I respect your decision and will leave items in the office to be picked up. Dear families, I can't believe it's been over a month since we've been schooling at home. I hope you have all settled into a nice routine with your work and play. Most of all, I hope you are taking time for yourselves and are happy. More than anything, we need to be mentally healthy and happy. I'm finally getting into a routine at home with Bruce. I check my Google Classroom often throughout the day and really work when he is sleeping. But most of all I'm doing my best to spend quality time with him, and I hope you are with your family too! I miss seeing everyone's faces and look forward to our Friday Zoom meeting time. I hope more of you show up this week. It's a dress silly day, so I hope to see you there! This week we are continuing our weekly lessons. There are a lot of lessons prepped for each day, however depending on your circumstances you don't need to do them all. If things are stressful, just try to read once a day, do iReady math and choose one other program that you enjoy. For those of you who want more, I've added 'Extra' assignments at the bottom of the google calendar for each day. I love seeing your answers and when you have a picture of yourself too! Stay happy, Mrs. Ault PS Bruce had a birthday last weekend and he had lots of fun.
Dear families,
I've been so busy with the google classroom I have not written a weekly newsletter to you all! All of my information for the distance learning is on my google classroom both in the 'Classwork' tab or in 'Google Calendar". By now all of the kiddos have logged in and have been doing school work from home. I am incredibly proud of all of them for being so focused and diligent about completing their work. I have been monitoring student work done on the various websites through google classroom: Whooo's Reading, iReady (Clever.com), Freckle, Readworks, Science A-Z, Writing A-Z and Renaissance Place (AR Tests) all provide me with the work completed by each individual student. This is where I can check student progress and provide help if needed. Many of these sites are student specific, and helps cater to each students' needs depending on their level of understanding. For example, iReady Math give students lessons and then a quiz to ensure the student understood. If they miss something on the quiz the lesson will repeat itself. It is in these quizzes that I suggest not helping them answer any questions. If they get a problem right on the quiz but do not fully understand, the program will move them forward when they are not ready. The main thing to ask your child when he/she asks for help is if it is a quiz or not. If it's a lesson, please help. If it is a quiz, let him/her try their best and answer to the best of their ability. Freckle.com has some of these quizzes before the lesson and iReady math has it throughout. Readworks and Science A-Z have questions after a reading/listening of a passage. If they read/listened, they should be able to answer the questions. If you need any help navigating or understanding anything, please don't hesitate to ask. One thing I've noticed is that some of the kids are not reading my directions in the google calendar. For each lesson I have specific instructions on what to do and where to go. If your child is struggling, could you sit with him/her and make sure they know where to see the directions? Thank you! Thank you so much for all of your hard work. I know you too are working from home and making sure your child is still continuing his/her education. We are in difficult times right now and we will get through this! Stay well, Mrs. Ault The Butte County Office of Education just announced that all Butte County schools (including Chico Unified School District) will be closed through Friday, April 17. Attention Chico Community -
Chico Unified School District Nutrition Services will provide an opportunity for families to pick up a grab and go food in a drive-thru meal service during our school closures for the week of March 23-27. Meals will be provided for any child 18 years of age or younger regardless of what school they attend. The Tentative Schedule is for the week of March 23-27, and families can pick up meals from 11:00 am to 11:30 am at the following locations: · Chapman Elementary · Citrus Elementary · Bidwell Junior High School · Chico Junior High School Meals will be provided based on the number of children present and will be delivered to your car. Meals are not to be consumed on-site as we encourage families not to congregate and to continue practicing social distancing. We recognize this closure will be a hardship for many families and we appreciate your ongoing patience as we help to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and families. Sincerely, Vince Enserro Nutrition Director Dear families,
I hope you are all faring well considering the circumstances and enjoying this beautiful weather today. I am saddened that we will not be able to see each other next week but I am hopeful that the Marigold staff and myself will be able to further our students education while we are socially distancing. I know we want to limit our students' screen time, however we do not have many options! I will be sending you an invite from Get Epic so your child can find books online to read. Please keep reading at home to continue strengthening reading skills. =) After we have our staff meeting this week to navigate the shift to distance learning, I will be in further email contact with you. Please let me know if you need anything or just need to talk. I'm taking this time to slow down and focus on what is important. I hope you are able to relax and enjoy this time with your family. Helpful hint that I should have sent you a few days ago! If it's raining and your kids are needing to run around, create an account with goonoodle.com. There are videos the kids can jump and dance to while stuck inside. Dear families,
